Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, medical technology, molecular biology or related field and two years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree in that field and one year of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications

NYS Clinical Lab License; Medical Technology, Molecular Biology or Microbiology degree and experience, as well as performing and PCR, real-time PCR and DNA sequencing on clinical specimens and supervisory experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of a senior level Research Scientist, the Research Scientist will contribute to new laboratory area as part of the CDC's Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network (AR Lab Network) to detect and respond to antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens and prevent spread of resistant infections.  
 
The Research Scientist I will participate in clinical testing utilizing molecular methods including PCR, real-time PCR, DNA sequencing, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.  Additionally, the incumbents will manage specimens, utilize an information management system, provide results of testing and contribute to laboratory testing and data analysis for special studies. 

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. 

 

Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment and may receive specific immunizations.
