A Bachelor's degree and one year of experience providing direct patient/client services in a health, human service or community-based organization, or institutional setting; OR an Associate's degree and three years of such experience; OR a HS diploma and five years of such experience. A Master's degree in a relevant field may substitute for one year of experience.
Qualifying experience may include communicable disease, mental health, or alcohol/substance abuse counseling. School health offices are considered an institutional setting and health care providers, such as private physician’s offices are considered health care settings; AND/OR performing oversight activities in a health regulatory organization to determine compliance with appropriate laws, rules or regulations; AND/OR conducting epidemiological research including assisting in data collection, conducting patient interviews, abstracting medical records, participating in study design, and developing questionnaires and/or data analysis; AND/OR performing responsibilities as a registered nurse. Research must have involved the study of the incidence, spread, and/or control of communicable or chronic diseases. Laboratory bench research will not be considered qualifying experience.
At least two years health-related direct patient/person interaction. At least one year field-based experience in outreach/community. At least one year experience working with HLMSM. At least one year experience with disease intervention collaboration with community members. At least one year of HIV testing experience. Strong computer/mobile technology skills. Spanish fluency. Knowledge of public health principles for communicable disease epidemiology.
The incumbent will work in the Bureau of HIV/STD Field Services and assist in preventing HIV transmission and improve health outcomes among Hispanic and Latino Men who have Sex with Men (HLMSM). The incumbent will conduct confidential investigations of persons and their partners; perform venipuncture or fingerstick; conduct disease screening activities; incorporate evidence based interventions into face-to-face interactions; conduct linkage and re-engage patients into care; identify partners and their social networks; complete the required disease investigation forms; enter forms into existing NYSDOH data systems; and other related duties as assigned.
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
