Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field; OR an Associate's degree in a related science field plus two years of experience in a laboratory or clinical setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least one year of research experience in a laboratory setting. Basic computer skills, e.g. use of internet, word processing software, spreadsheet software. Familiarity with Apple and PC platforms.

Responsibilities

The Senior Laboratory Technician will be involved in all aspects of a basic science research effort. Under the direction of the Principal Investigators, the Senior Laboratory Technician will assist in the design and execution of a wide range of molecular biology experiments, primarily using mycobacteria and E. coli; analyze, present and archive data arising from those experiments; make recommendations and provide input for the design of experiments; perform troubleshooting and document malfunctions; and contribute to general laboratory maintenance. Other related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. 

 

Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.  In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent re-assignment of this position, satisfactory background checks may also be required.
