Bachelor’s degree in social or health sciences, environmental or geographic sciences, computer science, or a related field, and two years of experience in a public health, human services or a health related organization or program; OR an Associate’s degree in social and health sciences and four years of such experience; OR a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of related experience. A Master’s degree may substitute for one year of related experience.
Graduate degree in Public Health, Environmental Sciences, Geographic Sciences, Computer Sciences or a related field. Proficiency in Access, Oracle, SAS, SQL, ArcGIS or similar database management/analysis software. Experience using GIS conducting spatial analysis, editing, creating, linking, managing, and analyzing large databases. Experience in public drinking water, environmental analysis and regulatory framework. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
As a member of the Bureau of Water Supply Protection in the Center for Environmental Health, this position will join a team of research and engineering professionals in the continued development and implementation of both the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). SDWIS focuses on a data warehouse and surveillance for drinking water systems and sample requirements across New York State. GIS will focus on public water system infrastructure, research, quality control and analysis. The incumbent will be responsible for database development, maintenance and troubleshooting, and coordination related to EPA requirements, data quality, and GIS data measures through data linkage, mapping, and analysis. The incumbent will also provide assistance, troubleshooting and disseminating information to Department of Health staff, and in preparing reports and publications. Other related duties as assigned.
