  • Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or closely related field and four years of software development; OR a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, and three years of the above experience; OR a Doctoral degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, and one year of the above experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate extensive experience with Enterprise Java Beans (EJB), Java Persistence API (JPA), Java Server Pages (JSP), Contexts and Dependency Injection (CDI) and will have built Rich Internet Applications (RIA) and progressive web apps using the Vaadin framework. Experience with Polymer and JavaScript to build web user interfaces is desired. The candidate will have proficiency writing applications interacting with an Oracle database, developing reports displaying requested data extracts and will possess strong written and verbal communication skills.  Domain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is a plus.

    Responsibilities

    The NYS Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center is dedicated to science in the pursuit of health and fulfills its mission of protecting and promoting the health of New Yorkers through testing, analysis, research and education. The incumbent of this position will be an experienced Java developer joining Wadsworth Center’s Laboratory Information Management System (CLIMS) and will be responsible for migrating CLIMS from older application components to a modern web-based application utilizing the Vaadin framework. These CLIMS applications support the laboratory testing and research initiatives and are crucial to the mission of the Wadsworth Center in its role as the State’s Public Health Laboratory. Further, the incumbent will implement software changes needed to support the Center’s technological advances and will possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Conditions of Employment

    Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
