Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Molecular Biology or a related field and two years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Molecular Biology or a related field and one year of research experience.
NYS Clinical Lab License. Bachelor's of Master's degree in Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, or Microbiology. Experience performing real-time PCR, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, and whole genome sequencing on clinical specimens. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
The Research Scientist I will contribute to a collaborative project for detecting and identifying antimicrobial resistant bacterial pathogens. This work will contribute to improved detection of resistant bacteria, and provide insight into infection control, investigations and the burden of these bacterial infections. Specific duties will include: testing utilizing molecular methods including real-time PCR, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, and whole genome sequencing; managing specimens; utilizing an information management system; analyzing data; presenting results of testing; assisting with assay development for the detection and understanding of drug resistant bacteria; and participating in manuscript and SOP writing. Other related duties as assigned.
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
