Bachelor’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field and four years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and three years of such experience; or a Doctorate in a related field and one year of such experience.
Experience analyzing large datasets. Experience conducting communicable disease outbreak investigations. Experience with electronic disease reporting. Experience with acute and chronic disease surveillance. Experience conducting epidemiological research, including: data collection; patient interviews, abstracting medical records, study design, questionnaire development, and data analysis. Experience with analysis platforms including SAS, ARC GIS, Excel and Access.
The Research Scientist III will lead communicable disease epidemiology and surveillance activities related to the hepatitis C virus (HCV), including co-infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Specific duties will include: developing surveillance procedures for case investigation, deduplication of records, prioritization algorithms, quality assurance metrics, laboratory, and LHD reporting; developing analytic studies that compare potential exposures of known cases to well individuals from the same community; collaborating with other NYSDOH partners (e.g., AIDS Institute, OPH) to prioritize and conduct expanded research projects necessary to address data needs of public health responses; leading disease investigations; providing guidance and technical assistance on appropriate outbreak management procedures to healthcare facilities and other public health partners; and developing written reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations. Other related duties as assigned.
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
