Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Health Informatics, Public Health or a closely related field including Biology and three years of research experience in the collection and evaluation of data; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and five years of such experience; OR seven years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

At least five years of experience in the area of communicable disease surveillance or evaluation activities. Strong experience in communicable disease outbreak investigations. Experience with surveillance and outbreak response activities. Excellent organizational and written and oral communication skills, which includes both public speaking and preparation of written materials such as reports, abstracts, and publications. Lead or co-author of scientific publications. Advanced knowledge of SAS, and experience using computer-based software packages, such as Epi Info, GIS, Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, etc. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work as part of a team and interact with individuals across all levels of an organization.

Responsibilities

The Program Research Specialist III will perform a broad range of essential epidemiological and investigation activities and provide guidance to respond to existing public health threats such as ongoing 2019 Novel Coronavirus response, disease surveillance, data analysis, cluster identification and reporting, control and prevention within the Central New York Regional Office. The incumbent will play a key role in conducting data surveillance and analysis using a variety of data collection systems. The incumbent will work with other regional and central office staff to develop, maintain, and monitor communicable disease data surveillance activities, including identification of clusters or outbreak, determination of trends, management, quality assurance, and analysis of surveillance datasets, and creation and presentation of reports that can be used to aid public health decision making. Other related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
