Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in genetics, biology, chemistry or a related field and two years of research experience; or a Master's degree in a related field and one year of research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

NYS Clinical Lab License; at least three years of experience in medical technology, microbiology or molecular biology, as well as performing testing on clinical specimens in a BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory. Experience analyzing data, preparing data summaries, performing literature review, and writing scientific papers.

Responsibilities

The Research Scientist I (RSI) will perform serology testing and assay development and assist in the characterization of pathogen-specific immune responses. The RSI will contribute to the design, validation and implementation of new assays to expand infectious disease detection for emerging pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2. Novel approaches to identifying immune responses to pathogens intimating NYS residents will be developed. The RSI will perform data analyses, interpretation, and reporting of results to inform public health decisions.

 

This position is supported by the New York State Public Health Corps Fellowship Program.

 

Successful completion of the Public Health Essentials certificate program will be required.
