Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Biological, Chemical, Health Sciences or related field; or Associates degree in Biological, Chemical, Health Sciences and two years of experience in a laboratory or clinical setting; or four years of experience in a laboratory or clinical setting. 

 

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience performing molecular assays; experience performing biochemical assays; coursework in human genetics or molecular biology; coursework in biochemistry or chemistry; experience working in a lab.

Responsibilities

The Senior Laboratory Technician will work in the NYS Newborn Screening Program on a grant-funded project. The primary lab responsibilities will be to support and assist with molecular and biochemical testing of newborn blood spots. Techniques utilized may include PCR, real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR), digital droplet PCR (ddPCR), DNA extraction, Sanger sequencing, flow injection analysis tandem mass spectrometry (FIA-MS/MS), and high-performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). Additional responsibilities will include assisting with specimen accessioning, ordering, and routine lab maintenance. Other related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position for approximately 7 months. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
