NYS Clinical Lab License; At least two years of experience in medical technology, molecular biology or microbiology, as well as performing PCR, real-time PCR and DNA sequencing. Strong written and verbal communication skills that demonstrate the ability to analyze data, prepare data summaries, perform literature review, and write scientific papers.
The Research Scientist will contribute to the CDC's Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) grant. Participate in clinical testing utilizing molecular and culture based methods including PCR, real-time PCR, next generation sequencing, susceptibility testing and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry to detect and characterize bacteria. Additionally, the incumbent will manage specimens, utilize a data information management system, provide results of testing, and contribute to special initiatives.
This Research Scientist I will contribute to assay development for waste water samples to optimize digital PCR, real-time PCR and next generation sequencing (NGS) tests. The Research Scientist will contribute to validation studies, analyze data and summarize results. The Research Scientist will also be tasked with preparing reports and manuscripts, preparing method validation applications, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and contributing to scientific writing and public education on infectious diseases.
