Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, medical technology, molecular biology or related field and one year of research experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for the one year of research experience.

NYS Clinical Lab License. Experience in Medical Technology, Molecular Biology or Microbiology. Demonstrated skills including specimen accessioning and working with bacterial isolates and primary specimens. Molecular work experience using real-time PCR, sequencing and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry on clinical specimens. Conventional experience with bacterial culture and antimicrobial resistance testing.
The Assistant Research Scientist will contribute to the CDC's Antimicrobial Resistance Lab Network to detect and respond to antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens and prevent spread of resistant infections.
The Assistant Research Scientist will assist with clinical testing utilizing conventional and molecular methods including bacterial culture, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, real-time PCR, Next Generation sequencing, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Additionally, the incumbent will assist with specimen handling, utilize an information management system, provide results of testing and contribute to laboratory testing and data analysis for special studies.
