PhD in immunology and/or infectious disease; research experience using laboratory rodents; experience interacting with, or previous membership on, an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
The Research Scientist III will oversee the coordination and implementation of effective systems for animal-use protocol review in compliance with the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy and Animal Welfare Act Regulations. The incumbent will Chair the Wadsworth Center's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The incumbent will oversee the review of scientific protocols, review of proposed significant changes to animal use in scientific studies, performance of regular inspections of research facilities and areas used for animal-based scientific research, performance of regular reviews of the animal care and use program and ongoing assessment of animal care and how animals are used by Wadsworth Center scientific staff. Specific duties include: facilitating IACUC meetings; overseeing the coordination of semi-annual program evaluations and facilities inspections in accordance with guidelines; implementing continuing education opportunities to IACUC members and animal users; staying abreast on animal welfare and laboratory animal use policies and issues surrounding the use of animals in scientific research; summarizing findings of semi-annual program reviews and inspections; and other related duties as assigned.
