This position involves potential occupational exposure to human or non-human primate blood, bodily fluids or tissues, or other potentially infectious materials (OPIMs) as defined by OSHA.
The incumbent in this position be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to a lab coat and face shield.
Experience working with bloodborne pathogens and handling blood specimens. Experience in diagnostic testing using serological methods. Experience using standard operating procedures and conducting clinical test validation studies. Experience using spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge of or demonstrated experience performing standard serology techniques (e.g. ELISA, chemiluminescence immunoassays). Experience with Luminex-based fluorescence methodology.
The Assistant Research Scientist (ARS) will be responsible for assisting with processing serology specimens and conducting antibody testing for COVID-19 on all specimen types, including blood spots. The ARS will be responsible for maintaining competence in the laboratory’s COVID-19 antibody testing methods, including laboratory-developed microsphere immunoassays and commercially available assays. Additionally, the ARS will assist with quality assurance, ordering and maintaining an inventory of relevant reagents, test kits and consumable supplies; and maintaining equipment. The ARS will assist with preparation of SOPs and method validation studies, maintaining assay and instrument documentation and assisting with data analysis.
